Elderflower Syrup: A Family Tradition Rooted in the Mountains
Some scents can tell a story before a single word is spoken. For us at the Grand Hotel Piz Galin, one of those scents is undoubtedly elderflower.
Every spring, when the meadows and forests of the Paganella plateau burst into bloom, a tradition that has been part of our family history for generations comes to life once again: harvesting elderflowers and preparing our homemade elderflower syrup.
It is a ritual that began many years ago and one that we still carry on today with the same care, passion and dedication.
From Harvesting to Bottling: Entirely Homemade
The production of elderflower syrup at Piz Galin still follows a traditional artisanal process.
Everything begins with the careful harvesting of the flowers at their peak bloom, when their fragrance is at its most intense. After being carefully selected, the flowers are processed according to a family recipe that has been handed down through generations and lovingly preserved over time.
Every step that follows, from preparation to bottling, is carried out in-house. It is a process that requires patience, attention to detail and a genuine passion for quality, allowing us to preserve the authenticity of a product that feels deeply connected to our family and our heritage.
The Taste of Summer in Trentino
Elderflower syrup is one of the beverages most closely linked to Alpine traditions. Fresh, fragrant and delicately floral, it has long been a symbol of summer in the mountains.
For many guests, it is a delightful discovery. For others, it has become an annual tradition, a flavour that instantly brings back memories of holidays spent at the Grand Hotel Piz Galin.
Behind every bottle lies more than a recipe. It represents a piece of our family history and the strong connection we share with the land that surrounds us.
A Tradition That Lives On
In a world that moves faster every day, we believe there is great value in preserving traditions that celebrate simplicity, seasonality and respect for nature.
The production of elderflower syrup is one of those traditions. A small ritual that returns each spring, reflecting our approach to hospitality: authentic, genuine and deeply rooted in the local territory.
Because sometimes, the scent of a flower is all it takes to bring a special memory back to life.
